There is a full lunar eclipse of the moon on Friday 14th March. The eclipse will already be well under way when it rises just after 7:45pm, so don’t miss seeing it rise over the horizon while blood red. If you’re late, you’ll miss the best bit! The eclipse will continue until the moon starts moving out of the Earth’s shadow at about 8:30pm, and the eclipse will be completely over by 9:45pm. If you miss out seeing it this time, the next opportunity to see a lunar eclipse in Nelson/Tasman will be 8 Sept 2025, but it will be between 3:30-6:45am(!).
The Nelson Astronomical Society is organising two viewing locations, weather permitting:
Come and see the blood red eclipsed moon through some good telescopes.
A donation tin for koha for those who would like to express appreciation to the Nelson Astronomical Society.
